İngilizce de Can ve kalıbının kullanımını anlatacağım. Öğrencilerin aklını karıştıran Gramer yapılarından olan Can and be able to yapısı aslında çok karışık bir konu değildir. Ufak bir pratikle bu konu hakkında fikir sahibi olabilir. Pratiklerinizle kendinizi geliştirebilirsiniz. be able to konu anlatımına geçiyorum.

Öncelikle yeteneklerimizi ifade ederken ” can ” kullandığımızı hatırlayalım. ” be able to ” ‘da yeteneklerimizi ifade ederken kullandığımız bir kalıptır. Örnek cümlelere geçelim ;

He can speak two foreign languages fluently.
He is able to speak two foreign languages fluently.
– O akıcı iki yabancı dil konuşabilir.

Olumsuz cümlede ise can’t ve am/is/are not able to kullanılmaktadır.

I can speak English, but I can’t speak Turkish.
I’m able to speak English, but I am not able to speak Turkish.
– Ben ingilizce konuşabilirim fakat ben Türkçe konuşamam.

Ayrıca ” Be able to ” diğer tensler içinde çekimlenebilir.

Bu tenslere örnek verecek olursak ; “Present” , “Present Perfect” , ” Simple Past ” , ” Future ” , ” With other modals ” , ” Past Perfect ” gibi.

Hemen bu zamanları ile örnekleyelim ;

I was able to run very fast when I was a child.
Some students in my previous class could/were able to speak English almost fluently, but they weren’t so good at grammar.

“Could”, geçmişteki yeteneklerimizi ya da geçmişte birine izin verme gibi durumları ifade ederken kullanılır.
